  9. This file is the master 'readme' file that describes the contents 
  10. of the TPUG library CD.
  11.  
  12. This CD contains thousands of disk images with over 10,000 programs 
  13. that have benefitted TPUG members for years. Most of these programs are 
  14. previously released freeware or shareware programs, but many were 
  15. exclusive to the user community of the Toronto PET Users Group.
  16.  
  17. The Toronto PET Users Group is a non-profit organization that exists to 
  18. promote and support users of Commodore equipment. The club was founded 
  19. in 1979 and over the years compiled a large library of programs for 
  20. virtually all of the computers that Commodore manufactured.
  21.  
  22. Many of these programs were submissions to TPUG by it's various members 
  23. and are unique to the club. The advent of disk imaging technology has 
  24. now allowed TPUG to preserve the disk images of the entire library.
  25.  
  26. This is the most complete and comprehensive compilation of the library 
  27. that has ever been put together, and is the culmination of a two year 
  28. project to collect, research, organize and image the TPUG library.
  29.  
  30. We tried as much as possible to only image disks that showed no surface 
  31. blemishes and stuck to the master disks as much as possible. 
  32. There was simply no way to test each program that is on this library CD 
  33. to ensure that they work properly. However, if you notice any programs 
  34. that do not run properly or suspect a program may be corrupted, 
  35. please contact TPUG and we will try to find a working copy for future 
  36. releases of this CD.
  37.  
  38. In putting together this library CD compilation however, it became 
  39. apparent that several disks were missing from the TPUG library. A search 
  40. for these disks on the internet and with current and previous members of 
  41. TPUG, and others, was only partially successful. 
  42. It would be appreciated if anyone reading this who is in possession of 
  43. any missing disks and willing to donate copies to TPUG, would contact 
  44. TPUG at 'info@tpug.ca'.
  45.  
  46. A few other things to note:
  47.  
  48. 1. The disk images are mostly in D64 format
  49. 2. There are several in D71 format and D81 format
  50. 3. There are no disks in 8080 format
  51. 4. All of the disk image names are in lower case with the exeption
  52.    of the Amiga images, which are in upper case
  53. 5. TPUG at one time distributed the Fred Fish Amiga disk collection 
  54.    on 3.5' floppies. This collection is not on this CD since there 
  55.    is a Fred Fish CD available outside of TPUG.

  57. With regards to the two sided disks or 'flippies':
  58. 1. If the name ends in alpha, sides are represented as 'a' & 'b'. 
  59.    eg (c)t2a (side A) & (c)t2b (side B)
  60. 2. If the name ends in numeric, sides are represented as '1' & '2'. 
  61.    eg (c)ta1 (side A) & (c)ta2 (side B)

  63. Generally each section below is described by:

  65. 1. Folder location - These are the folders in the root directory on the CD
  66.  
  67. 2. Descriptions - Notes about the Commodore platforms they run on, and 
  68. general notes about the disk images themselves, plus the total counts
  69.  
  70. 3. Sub-folders - Usually these sub folders follow the paper catalog 
  71. structure closely
  72.  
  73. 4. Notes - Various notes, listing missing disks, missing files, rebuilt disks, etc.
  74.  
  75. 5. Gaps - These are just gaps in the library based on the paper catalog listings. 
  76. In most cases these do not represent missing disks, but are legitimate 
  77. gaps that represent changes in the number sequencing, or where the 
  78. library 'leapt ahead' to keep up with other user group libraries.

  297. These are disks made up from the archives of Canada Remote Systems, a 
  298. bulletin board system active in the 1980's that was located in 
  299. Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
  300. The CRS bulletin board offered programs and utilities for many 8-bit 
  301. platforms, and the disks included here are the ones specifically for 
  302. Commodore systems.
  303. These were originally to be included in the TPUG library after CRS became defunct.

  354. 1. m(aat) master disk listed as missing in the catalog. This is the EZS Spreadsheet program.
  355. 2. m(aau) master disk listed as missing in the catalog. This is the Galaxy Word Processor program.

  636. These contain various rebuilds of CP/M library disks (z)aaa & (z)aau

  638. 3. JimBTax:
  639. These are the tax disks put out by Jim Butterfield. Various years represented here. 
  640. Useful if you forgot to file your taxes from 1987!

  642. 4. Masterdisks:
  643. The original masterdisks that TPUG used to distribute, containing programs for COMAL & VIC-20.
  644. Some of these were used to build and maintain the paper catalogs.

  646. 5. Unreleased:
  647. These are unreleased disks from 1994 that were produced but never distributed.
  648. Some were incomplete, and some apparently had programs with language that 
  649. TPUG couldn't release to the public. Anyway, they're included here.
